52.GLASS BLOWING JOBS

Develops specifications for glass component parts and apparatus, such as test tubes, retorts, and flasks, used in medical and laboratory products, and blows and shapes glass to required dimensions, applying knowledge of glass technology and glass blowing techniques: Develops sketch into blueprint specifications, correlates product design, and determines type of glass to use to fabricate product, utilizing knowledge of factors, such as effects of heat, vacuum, and corrosive chemicals. Heats glass tubing to pliable stage, using gas flame. Blows tubing into specified form, using compressed air or own breath. Shapes, bends, or joins sections of blown glass tubing, using flaring, pressing, and flattening handtools, and stop cork. Inspects and measures product to verify conformance to specifications, using instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, magnifier, and ruler. May anneal product, using annealing oven. May cut glass tubing to specified size and polish tube edges, using hand cutting and polishing wheels.

Glassblowing is the art of creating a glass figure by inflating a blob of molten glass by blowing using a tube. This art has its origin in the ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia and continued to flourish up to the modern era. This article will give a brief glassblowing guide to show how this art works.A blow pipe or blow tube, one of the major tools in glassblowing, is dipped on a furnace of molten glass. The molten glass is gathered on the tip of the tube just like honey being gathered in a dipper. After that, the molten glass is rolled on a slab of marble or a thick sheet of steel called a marver to create a cool skin outside the glass.

The actual blowing comes next. A fair amount of air is blown in the molten glass through the tube creating a bubble. Then blocks are used to shape the bubble that is created. There are also jacks that will aid in creating a distinctive shape on the glass. In the middle of the creation, the glass may cool. It is then inserted to another furnace called the glory hole to be reheated. The bottom of the piece is flattened with a use of a paddle. When this is done, colors and other decorative touches can be added in the piece such as patterns of colored glass or adding canes.

The real history was then proven to be from the ancient Roman Empire. They had used the technique of glassblowing to form vessels instead of the traditional use of molders. They had found out that glassblowing could give them a wide option to create more designs in their glass pieces. In this early time, glassblowing was not considered an art yet. They used the technique to create functional items such as vessels to hold up stuff. Later in history glassblowing would become and would be considered.
