CD duplication packages can have a variety of printing. All of the different methods can be produced with a varying quality. Considering each of these different types of printing we need to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type. The right choice for one CD duplication package can be different from another. CD duplication with ink jet printing can be very photo realistic, but it requires very high quality ink and a special disc to be water resistant and keep its color in the sunlight (i.e. inside a car dash.) This can be very expensive cost per disc. A lot of the ink jet printing we have seen is inexpensive because it uses cheap ink and cheap media printed at a low resolution. This inexpensive method may be great for color at a low cost; the durability of the CD us in question. The CDs do not hold up and sometimes have a very unprofessional look compared to other print technologies. Additionally the ink will fade. Sometimes the CDs are varnished.
CD duplication products that have varnish may be water resistant, that does not mean it is resistant to other liquids such as alcohol, which is commonly found in clubs where CDs are sold by musicians. There is no standard so it is the luck of the draw. Additionally CD duplication packages printed with ink jet can still fade in the sunlight as they may not be CD stable. If you want to ensure the quality then you can do it yourself for less than you would think. For very little money you can do it yourself at home with an Epson printer and Taiyo Yuden Water Shield discs.
We do not sell these products but they can easily be found on the internet. The Taiyo Yuden discs are glossy and water resistant. We have ran them under a running faucet right after coming off a printer, and only some of the blacks barely came off and was easily wiped clean . With the Epson printer on the highest setting, your CD will have a photo realistic image that is a higher resolution than any CD printing that can be offered to you by any other means that we have seen. While Taiyo Yuden water shield discs are very high quality, they do have a greenish cyan dye on the bottom that gives them that classic CD-R look. So if you want your CD duplication package to have a true silver bottom CD this is not a good option. However if you do not care about this, then it is a great way to go.
Laser or offset printing technology is far beyond CD printing technology. It is more readily available and cost effective. However be warned that a CD duplication package with labels is dangerous. The reason is that the labels use adhesive. Adhesive can be seriously degraded with heat. Your CDs do get warm from playing, and if they are left out in a car in the summer. No label manufacturer or CD duplication company with any reputability can guarantee this will not happen. When it does it is likely to come off when spinning in the high speeds of a CD player. This can destroy the player and cause a lot of unhappy feelings. So take our advice and steer clear of the adhesive labels.
